Gerald Ford is a billionaire?

Update: (Heh) Not so much a billionaire - it's not the same Gerald Ford listed on Forbes as ran the country for a while. Close-reading makes winners, kids. Read on for basic Ford trivia, tho...

If this Forbes report is correct then two years after having a stroke, Gerald Ford's personal stake in Golden State Bancorp after its sale to Citigroup left him with a net worth in excess of $1 billion US. One bill-ll-lli-on dollars. Yowza. That's a whole lot o' grass for the farm boy from Grand Rapids.

He's a pretty interesting guy. My favorite Ford fact is the he is very, very likely to be the only person ever to attain the Vice-Presidency and the Presidency without having been elected to either office.

Things I also didn't know about him: he received offers to play professional football for the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. Makes those old, old SNL skits look much funnier. *duh*

Did you know that President Ford is the last living member of the Warren Commission?

This campaign photo of his cracks me up. It's pretty stagey - Ford campaigning with farmers but look at those shoes! Porcelain, bone white. Did aides put 'em on while he stood at the tractor?

Per the linked to Forbes article, it'd seem this is a different Gerald Ford than the former President. It lists his age as 60 rather than 90+ and has him graduating from Southern Methodist rather than UMichigan.
