New Google kid: Aaron Boodman

Under the layers of scripts, components, and rants, that's the motivation for building...I want more great interfaces on the web. I want to see new, interesting ways to navigate applications. I want to see the web community continue to lead the software industry into the future of interface design.

We're very lucky. Aaron Boodman (a.k.a. youngpup) is on board; nice young man that he is - he's accepted our offer and is now working with us here at Google* where his first project will be improvements and features to Blogger's UI. Then later - he'll be helping us to transform our relationship to content generation into something richer, useful, and easier-to-understand.

He's multi-talented and won't just be writing large, Rube Goldberg-esque Javascript sky castles (though we do like those on occasion), but I think it's important to note that to some of you he's best known for having written a lot about (and a lot of) client-side scripting.

His Googlism says it best: aaron boodman is the man when it comes to web ui s

*reviews* Well, it doesn't exactly say it best. But we can overlook the lowercase text-transformations. And that weird last letter "s".

Thanks, Aaron. We'll try to keep the weather here nicer than Seattle.

*For those wondering, yes this is the result of this post about looking for people interested in working for Google. But we're not done hiring yet. Not by a long shot. Let me know if you're interested in joining the Google UI or Engineering team...

Congrats to Aaron and to Google for getting such a great guy. His googlism beats mine, hands down.

(Do I get any sort of finder's fee for this? ;)

Oh my god, are you guys serious? Didn't even only recently accept a job at Microsoft and move to Seattle, like, 3 weeks ago?

Congrats to you guys tho. Mad smart folk.

PS: We need to get dinner sometime soon, eh?

muah! That seattle thing was just my evil plot to get google to bring me on, since the first time I applied they laughed me out of the office.

Worked like a charm, of course.

But yeah: as crazy as it sounds, I'm off to san francisco in a month.

One can only hope this new addition will mean more meaningful attention will be paid to handling error conditions such as this morning's 500 that chewed up, unnecessarily, more than one user's attempted posting.

Dear anonymous: Regarding morning posting errors - I'm sorry 'bout that. We have engineers working on that issue today.

Sorry, I didn't mean the specific server error that caused today's problem. I mean improving the authoring UI so that the client doesn't lose a post contents just because the server can't accept it.

I'm really interested in working on the authoring UI. I've had all sorts of cool ideas floating around in my head since I first talked to chris.

So yeah, I'm all over this.
